Based on their assumptions about a lack of accurate and balanced information about the US and its values of freedom and democracy, political institutions in Washington invested huge amounts of money in what they saw as winning the hearts and minds of people living in the Arab and Muslim worlds.

AlJazeera added an English-language website to its existing Arabic-language website in 2003. As already noted, Al-Jazeera English started in 2006. 7 This was not the BBC’s first entry into the market for Arabic-language television news.
