Dr David Bayly, Dr W. D. Loth (auth.)'s Aspect ’94: Advances in Subsea Pipeline Engineering and PDF

By Dr David Bayly, Dr W. D. Loth (auth.)

Aspect '94 is the main up to date and accomplished review of the current and way forward for the pipeline structures undefined. It contains papers from major specialists in all components of pipeline engineering and know-how.
As this booklet indicates, the previous few years have noticeable nice strides ahead within the box of subsea pipelines. Deepwater pipelines, lengthy distance pipelines and intricate structures transporting hydrocarbons and fluids to and from marginal box subsea wellheads and templates are all being carried out with no major difficulties.
The speed of growth maintains to speed up within the subsea undefined, and the scope to make extra advancements is consistently being explored. Operators, specialists, providers and contractors are all discovering, constructing and checking out new suggestions and concepts.

0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The critical review of nearshore and landfall pipeline design and construction carried out revealed that all the three aspects namely, routing, environmental, and construction should be studied properly to achieve a risk and environmental impact minimised, pipeline safety improved and a cost effective solution. Also identified was the requirement to use state-of-the-art technology and the increased responsibilities and involvement of the design and construction contractors.

Schematic illustrations are included in this section to get a better understanding of the aspect illustrated. The work carried out for Project I posed considerable technical challenge in routing the pipeline through narrow shipping estuaries, shifting sand banks, large tidal variations, shall waters and mudflats. Also, the National Park along the Wadden sea and the protected area have been given due considerations in the landfall route selection process. 1. 1 SELECTED LANDFALL ROUTES 46 T. PRESSURE SPECIFICATION BREAK PIPELINES 23 If the data used is correct, the probability of a well failing to shut in is sufficiently high that a small bore vent system may not provide the required safety margin. In general, small leaks can be handled by pipeline design involving line packing and the vent system would be required to handle full flow from a failed well. The most straight forward way to minimize leaks is to close multiple valves at the tree. This is a significant change in operating practice and may substantially impact the specification of valves and actuators.
